Summertime Reading

As the school year comes to an end, we would like to remind our parents about the importance of summer reading.  We would also like to give you resources to better understand your child's Lexile level and help you find wonderful books for your child to enjoy that are also on his/her reading level.  We encourage you to utilize the public library and their children's summer programs this summer.  Research shows that students who are encouraged to use summer hours to read books that interest them, and are on their Lexile level have tremendous benefits when returning to school in the fall.  The Lexile "Find a book GA" website can help identify books that your child is interested in and able to read.  Mrs. Markham, our media specialist here at C.R.E.S. also has some a list of recommended favorites posted on the media center website.  Every student in the state of Georgia also has access to thousands of free e-books at  this summer (see our website for all the details).  Let's make sure our students have a good book in their hands this summer when they're not in the classroom!

A message from Dr. Sapp

May 23, 2017

Dear Parent (s) and Guardian (s),

Effective, June 16, 2017, I will officially be a retired educator.  I want to take this opportunity to thank you

for your continued support and cooperation during my 16 years as principal at Crooked River Elementary School.

I am looking forward to spending more quality time with my family.  Thank you for allowing your children to be a part of my extended family at CRES. I was able to celebrate birthdays, accomplishments, visits from the tooth fairy, and trips to Disney World!  What I am going to miss the most are the daily hugs and smiles from your precious angels!  Have a wonderful summer and a great school year!

Dr. Sheila E. Sapp

    Aug. 3rd
  • Open House for the 2017-2018 School Year
    Aug. 1st
Instructional Day Begins at 8:30 AM

Attention Parents

Please remember that the instructional day begins at 8:30 AM.  All teachers begin teaching promptly at 8:30 AM; therefore it is very important that students be in their classroom, seated, and ready to go at 8:30 AM.  Students who are not in the classroom by 8:30 will be marked tardy.  Thank you for ensuring your child is here on time every day!

National Anthem Ettiquette

In an effort to model and teach our students the correct etiquette for the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem, we will adhere to the following guidelines from the U.S. Congress.  If you, parents and community members, are in the building during the morning pledge and anthem, please stop and follow these guidelines also in an effort to assist us in modeling the proper etiquette.

In 2007, the U.S. Congress addressed etiquette for the pledge of allegiance and the    national anthem in 36 USC 301. When saying the pledge of allegiance, citizens of all ages should stand at attention, face the flag, and salute by placing the right hand over the heart. Men should remove their hats, and women any sports caps. When in uniform, military personnel, firefighters, and law enforcement officers give a military salute.  Veterans and service personnel out of uniform may give the military salute or place the right hand over the heart.

Everyone, even very young children, should rise, remain standing, and salute by placing the right hand over the heart during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner—first note to last. The anthem isn't easy to sing, and you need not do so if you don't have the necessary range. But you must stand quietly until  "O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave" has rung out and the music ends.
